Here’s A Question For Ya

By cmbaker ¶ Posted in Uncategorized ¶ Tagged Eragon, Hunger Games, Hype, Twilight, Wings, YA buzz ¶ 5 Comments

If you pick up a book because it has gotten a lot of “hype” or “buzz” or whatever you want to call it, does this make you more critical as a reader or more forgiving?

  • Happy Mother's Day
From time to time I’ll be struck by a moment. It’s usually something completely ordinary—tickling my daughter to get a belly laugh, the “hi” we get from James every morning when we open his door, my husband reading books before bedtime. I memorize the way her eyes crinkle, his tiny fingers gripping the chewed up crib rail, the two pairs of feet side by side […]

  • Imagining a Post-Amazon World May 21, 2013
A few weeks back I wondered why publishers haven't taken the initiative to begin selling e-books in a more-agressive way, and especially why they don't empower authors to sell their own e-books. Reader Steve Davidson took that a step further and wonders why an author with a platform needs a publisher or distributor at all: Very interesting, but I d […]

  • Casual Friday: Summer Reads May 24, 2013
This week, it finally feels like summer in Michigan. Hot, humid, and full of mosquitoes. We turned on the air conditioning and dusted off the camping supplies. It sounds strange, but this kind of weather always makes me want to curl up with a good book. As a kid, summer was basically 3 months of as many library books as I could devour. Mom took us to the libr […]
