What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jamie Morrow and Erin Funke geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what’s up.
What I’m Reading
How about what I’m supposed to reading? I’m supposed to be reading The Long Ships by Frans G. Bengtsson for book club, but I’m actually reading Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland and The S-Word by Chelsea Pitcher. Since I don’t want to be shamed at book club, I think I’ll have to set those aside and dive into the Swedish behemoth, which will undoubtedly make me a better person, but is daunting to think about reading for some reason. I’ve also been digging into TV scripts recently to see how that all works.
What I’m Writing
Not much this week. I turned in a draft of my proposal that was due last Wednesday (60 pages + 15 page synopsis + 2 pages of Books 2 & 3 in the series synopses). I’m now waiting on notes for that and expecting (with a hint of dread) my pending editorial letter on ALIVE. My main hope is that the notes on the proposal and the editorial letter don’t arrive at the same time! I’ve tried so hard to make sure this proposal gets completely out the door and ready for the world before I have to return to ALIVE, but I just know disaster will somehow ensue. Other than that, I poked at an MG that I’ve been co-writing with a friend and I’m starting to think about writing a spec script for TV (for reasons, I swear).
What Inspires Me Right Now
Right now? Everything. I’m really into making stuff at the moment. I’m not sure why. Videos, scripts, whatever. I just want to do stuff. It’s a feeling I refer to as the “post-deadline itch.” So I’ve been catching up on my Youtube Channels (Daily Grace’s My Damn Channel, Vlogbrothers, Hannah Hart and Nerdy & Quirky–if you haven’t checked out these channels, what are you doing? Go! Go! Go!) My husband still thinks Youtube is all cat videos and people getting injured, it’s not people! It’s not. And I even made a video of my own (see the post below). I’m also watching some awesome shows that I’ve previously missed and trying to figure out what makes them tick: Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica and Awkward. I am obsessed with Freaks and Geeks, though sadly I’ve now watched all the episodes. So I guess that combined with Undeclared means Judd Apatow inspires me right now. Can I be him? Can we at least be friends?
What Else I’m Up To
My husband and I took a class on real estate (thrilling, I know). We’re about to start another class through https://www.coursera.org/ You should too! It’s going to be awesome. I believe we’ll be taking a Brief History of Humankind, but if that’s not your thing there are tons of other courses to choose from. We attempted to also take a class in The Lindy Hop, but gave up because they made us dance with other people the whole time and (a) it was something we were doing to spend time together and (b) I only want to have to touch my own sweaty husband, not someone else’s. Other than that, we’ve been going to the lake, golfing, going to boot camp, playing in our kickball league and enjoying the summer.
How are y’all?
